I was cursing the course writer as I did this exercise. It was more laborious than using Letraset, and I DO remember using that, and rubbing it onto the paper with a burnisher. However, having completed the exercise I did appreciate a few things better:
1) that it must have been really painstaking when lettering was hand done, and indeed painstaking when signwriters’ work.
2)I began to understand the minutiae of different fonts, serifs, san serifs, etc, and the spaces between that are needed and the judgement of where to place the next letter.
3) I noticed the balancing of thin and thick strokes in the letter formations and how that creates a balance in the letter shapes. I made a few spacing errors and think I used one wrong stroke while doing this.
